
Continuing Legal Education Seminars
DCBA's
committees sponsor and conduct
various seminars during the course of the year in an effort
to provide top quality continuing
legal education for members
of the Association.
Lawyer Referral and Mediation
Service
The
Lawyer Referral and Mediation Service
provides referrals to participating attorneys and serves the
community by putting people in contact with a local attorney.
Social Programs
Through regularly
scheduled social
and special events, the Association seeks to provide fun
as well as camaraderie for its members.
The DCBA Brief
The
DCBA's monthly publication, the Brief,
is perhaps the finest and most substantive publication of
its kind in the country.
Legislative/ISBA Liaison
The Association
maintains a legislative and ISBA Liaison who advocates the
views of the Association before the Illinois General Assembly
and keeps the members informed as to statewide developments
in the ISBA.
Career Services Program
The DCBA
maintains a legal placement service available to all members
for attorneys and legal secretaries.
Getting Started in DuPage County
The Membership
Committee provides assistance and training to newer members
of the Association endeavoring to establish themselves as
practicing attorneys in DuPage County. Newer members can also
take advantage of DCBA's Mentor
Program.
Other Services
Other services
include:Driver Improvement School, fee dispute arbitration,
sale of Real Estate contracts, membership directory, photocopying
and fax service, court security passes, binding of Appellate
Briefs, rental of conference room for depositions, and sale
of mailing labels, attorney diaries, and Local Rules of the
Eighteen Judicial Circuit Court.

The Association
maintains three full-time staff attorneys who provide legal
services to the indigent. In addition, through Legal Aid the
DCBA handled approximately 500 cases in the year 2000. This
represents a contribution of approximately 5,000 hours during
the year by attorneys who have accepted and worked on Legal
Aid cases on a pro bono basis.
Speaker's Bureau
The DuPage
Bar maintains a speaker's
bureau and provides approximately 75 speakers per year
for schools, community groups and other organizations.
Mock Trials and Moot Court
The Mock
Trial Program is maintained for junior high students seeking
to participate and compete in the program. The Moot Court
Program works with high schools. The National High School
Mock Trial Competition was held locally in 1994 and the DCBA
provided volunteers for the program.
Judiciary Committee
This committee
of attorneys with various levels of experience provides screening
and evaluations for all judicial candidates from Associate
Judges to Appellate Court Judges.
Video Library
The Association
maintains and distributes videotapes of Legal Action,
the DCBA's award-winning cable TV program. The programs are
designed to utilize various community resources to educate
lay persons on the law in general, as well as to present timely
topical issues related to the legal profession.
Family Shelter
The Bar
Foundation has sponsored charity drives for the Family
Shelter. The Legal Aid staff is "on-call" to provide
immediate legal advocacy to the shelter clients.
Homeless Project
The DCBA
has worked with the People's Resource Center and PADS to sponsor
clothing and food drives for the homeless. In addition, the
staff attorneys and DCBA members provide legal advocacy for
the homeless and not-for-profit corporations, taking meritorious
legal aid cases.
